Knitting with Fire

I've cast on (again). This time, I'm knitting with my new favourite yarn -- Silk Purse by Alchemy Yarns. I picked it up at Make One Yarn Studio, of course.

The project is BEAUTIFUL. I'm keeping it for myself, for once. Pardon the le crap lighting. It was late, and I took them inside.

Once it's blocked, it'll look wonderful. The yarn is 100% silk, and I think I'm in love.

In other news, I was at the thrift store the other day and found some roving:

Orange and Chocolate brown. I see a man scarf in the future. Now I just need to learn to spin... See the price, though? Oh yeah. Yeah, baby, yeah.

I also found some needles -- LONG steel dpns and some old-fashiony ones (steel as well). YAY! I love thrift stores!

Finally -- we gave the cat a bath.

Robbie thinks she's going to kill us in her sleep.

Welcome back!

Okay, after taking a well-needed hiatus from posting, I'm back!

Here's what occured in the last few months:
1) Got married! YAY!
2) Knit a few things (only finished two things -- not so yay)
3) Quit my job.
4) Argued with my previous employer about getting paid.
5) Filed a complaint with the Employment Standards Board to get paid.
6) Got paid (finally) a full two weeks after my final paycheck was due.
7) Now I work from home
8) Went on our honeymoon.
9) Nearly went insane.
10) Had three blissful days at the end of the honeymoon.
11) Flew home (without drugs!!!)
12) Have a clean home!
13) Have far too much yarn
14) Own a deck and am getting a fence.
15) Saw little baby Rhapsody Wilde (beautiful little girl who belongs to dear friends)
16) RELAXING.

Okay, minor update over. I'll try to get some pics up of what I've been doing yarnwise.

Not-so-finishing streak...

I was so proud of myself. I'd finished so many things and cut down on my active stuff on the needles. I had needles free, dangit!!

Now..... not so much. In fact, I may have added a few more needles to my collection... I'm so ashamed!!!!!

I blame the stress at work. I am not thrilled about the turn my job has taken this last week. I'm not going to elaborate, because who knows who reads this blog. Lets just say that some things happened that made me wonder if I am being given the respect that I feel I deserve. *le sigh*

Anyways, in the last two weeks, I have cast on no fewer than two projects. These projects are small, but time consuming because of the gauge. Thank the good earth they're baby stuff!!!

As well, the wedding is a mere 18 days away, and I am getting ready to have a stiff drink. I'm excited, but there's still A LOT to do. I still haven't gotten a tan!!!! (spray tan, my environmentally-friendly readers. This girl does not sunbath nor does she fake bake)

Without further ado, dear friends, I give you my "Ode de Full Knitting Basket."

It started simply enough. Empty the basket. Make it orderly and crap. The most recent editions to the basket were the first to be shown the light...

Alpaca and silk. SO not my fault. I blame Amy. What is it, you ask? Why, another hat for little Fergus Fetus -- the soon-to-be baby Spruit!!!

The sock was hanging out at the top of the basket because I've worked on her recently. She and all her needles were soon on the window sill, enjoying a view of our still-unfinished backyard.

She caught a few rays, which played wonderfully off all the cat hair on her....

Soon enough, the big-and-ugly came out to play.

Long, no? Big-and-ugly sat on the couch because evil things burst into flame in the sunlight.

Baby booties for Fergus Fetus followed. I'm not sure *how* they go together, but I'm praying to the goodness that is that the pattern will eventually become clear.

The lace shawl came next. He was so tired of being stuck in the bottom of the basket that he promptly jumped on the window sill (with 2 of the 3 balls of his yarn) and caught some rays, dude.

I have day dreams of eating the yarn like it's cotton candy. It's that light and fluffy. Kid Merino, if anybody's interested in knowing. :)

Shyte started going back in the basket. I think I have a problem with blue...

More shyte wound up in the bin. Now I know I have a problem in general.

The highlight of the days were the friends that found each other amongst the chaos. Baby hat? Meet Kid Mohair. :) I think they're in love.

Finishing Streak

I think it's finally clicked. For some reason, I've been finishing like mad these last few weeks. There was the baby poncho, the baby socks, the baby hat....hmm...

Must be the baby stuff. It's faster, it's knit up so quick -- I can do at less cost and feel so fulfilled.

That must be where I was going wrong.

Of course, there's still the baby blankies and the shawl that I have to finish. Once the sweater is finished, I'll get my behind in gear and finish them.

Baby hat:

The pattern: My own.

The sticks: 3.5 mm double pointed

Baby Sockies:

The pattern: My own.

The yarn: Red heart something something (the green) and Socken Woole self striping

The sticks: 2.5 mm double pointed

Work-in-progress (the ones that I'm actively working on):

This little sockie is for Robbie, technically, but you know I'm going to use it. ;) The pattern is out of a book that I can't remember the name of. I know the name of the pattern is "Denmark." The yarn is "Jitterbug" handpainted.

The sweater (2/3 done!!!!):

Seriously LOVING this pattern and the yarn. LOVING. It's so pretty and soft. The pictures don't do it justice. Just wait until it's done and I get it outside for it's closeup!

Oops. It's been a while...

Over a month, actually. Sorry, y'all. That's what happens when you go back to work, I guess. Lots to blog about, but it's nearly 11:00 p.m., so do forgive the crude drafting of this entry.

First and foremost, I have completed stuff. WOOHOO! And started stuff, but that's beside the point. I've joined a S 'n' B and it's quite entertaining. The store is Make 1 Yarns and is run by Sandra and her wife, Amy. I haven't had the priveledge of meeting Amy yet, but hope to soon. Turns out she's actually a published author (just ignore the bottom two), and Robbie says it's like I'm hanging out with "Yarn Celebrities." Oh the glamour.


Sandra's awesome. She gave me beer and wants to name her dog "Potato." 'Nuff said.

Work is good. It's really challenging and busy, and my heart breaks every time I leave Elodie in the morning, but it's nice to get into a routine, somewhat.


The diet is.... *cough*


Moving on! -- Pictures!!



I knit a REALLY cute poncho/shawl for a toddler. Katie turned one on May 14th!









The poncho is made out of two strands of Sheep Shop yarn knit together. The pattern is my own (I'm very excited about that). I embelished, as you can see, with some random yellow wool and a pretty felted flower. It took me three days (!!!!) to complete, which is, for me, a new record.

I also made a baby hat and some matching socks for James and Jen's fetus, but I can't show you that yet. Not until Fergus the Fetus is born. Trust me...it's cute.

Finally, I cast on a new project last night. Blue Sky Alpaca is amazingly soft. There was kind of a blizzard last night, so I couldn't take pictures outside, so forgive the sh*tty lighting. When it's sunny out, I'll get some good pictures.
I found the pattern in one of the many pattern books that I inherited from Robbie's mom. Vintage circa 1976-ish. I'm knitting the red sweater in a beautiful baby grey with pink and dark grey accents. Tres chic. Obviously, this will be Elodie sized. ;)
